Taken from an old Japanese haiku, Spring Come Again represents another of comics' functions: to add layers to pre-existing works while not taking away from their original sentiment. The poem's use of flow and simplicity inspired the look of the comic. Eliminating panel borders freed the images of restraint and allows them to breathe. At the same time, integrating text into the images' 'physical space' brought the two closer together.
